Maybe, plenty would disagree with you on that.

My thinking is this:

The Corvette is a legacy brand. There’s a profile and expected spec that goes with the car. It’s a long front hood with a v8 under it and RWD and a silhouette that’s very distinctive. A cultured Image and a heritage that has not swayed since the C2. They have amazing Halo ‘Vettes, ones that look the same as a base aspirational model. I feel this is Key. people work their lives to afford even a base Corvette because it’s a corvette and to the uninformed they look similar to the Z06 or ZR1 or what ever the next range topper is. They can race a car that looks like a Corvette and make people want a Corvette. People know a Corvette. Placing a halo car over the standard Corvette could impact the brand image. Why buy a ‘Vette if you can’t afford the best and people will know that because the range topper is mid engine and looks different. Or even worse why change the brand image completely and phase out the current design entirely?

Alternatively, Cadillac needs a Halo car! they killed the CT8 sedan and currently don’t have a “Halo” car. If you had to choose I’d say maybe it’s the CTS-V? or the less powerful CT6-V? And isn’t CT6 suppose to be the new CTS yet they still make the CTS, for probably not too much longer as it’s not part of the rebranding naming scheme? it’s a fucking mess.

Halo car woes aside Cadillac has been pushing performance as luxury since the first STS got the Northstar and other than V spec variants the closes we got was a rebadged Corvette with a showcase engine called the XLR and it was, a thing.. We almost got the Cien but They over shot on that one I think. A northstar derived v12? hmmmm might have been awesome but god damn it doesn’t make sense in any other way. But a MR luxury sports car does for the brand. Especially with the rebranding attempt they are failing soo badly at! Cadillac needs a Halo Sports car. Something that says Yes we are committed to luxury and power. Something special and distinctive enough to make people to take notice.

Cadillac needs to for better lack of an expression: Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy.

And no I don’t mean take chances at cutting corners on interiors (ATS I’m looking at you) or making mistakes (cadillac cimarron, cadillac catera) or getting messy (XLR really just a tweaked vette?)

Not that this proves you wrong, but my wife’s father in law who works at the milford proving grounds and is familiar with the project specifically called it the “rear engined Corvette” when I asked about it.

If it is sold as a Cadillac after the fact is another matter. I agree it should be

Yet it will be a Vette, probably Zora. Look at GMs past, according to them no car should be faster than the Corvette. Also more Chevy dealers than Cadillac and there are tons of Corvette collectors/enthusiast who will want the best of the best. Thats a few hundred sales alone. No way GM turns that down.

And again GM freaked out when the buying age of the Vette shifted 5 years older (I think 5 could be less). They want this car to be a poster car to attract a younger audiences. Why would they give it to Cadillac? When was the last time a Cadillac was a poster car that wasn’t a concept?

Well, GM most definitely has two really good brands for that car! I suspect that as a marketing strategy it should be a Caddie as you say... but it wouldn’t be crazy if they christened it a corvette.
